Fire Safety Training

Davenheath-OTS offers the following training courses designed to meet the requirements placed upon all occupants of premises by legislation and specific instructions by LFEPA.  Penalties for non-compliance of regulations can be severe.

Course A - Fire Marshall/Warden Instruction

All premises must nominate a ‘Responsible Person’ in charge of the fire protection and if necessary, sub-wardens to cover parts of the premises such as floors.

This course covers instructions on the following

  • Fire protection equipment, such as indicator panels, call points, detectors and any auxiliary equipment connected to the fire alarm.
  • Emergency Lights
  • Maintaining documentation and log books

Duration: Approx 3 hours.

Practising use of a fire extinguisherCourse B - Use of Fire Fighting Equipment

This course covers the practical use of most types of hand held fire extinguishers and fire blankets, including;

  • How to evaluate when it is appropriate to use an extinguisher;
  • The potential dangers associated with the inappropriate or unskilled use of extinguishers;
  • What extinguisher to use in a particular circumstance (and what extinguishers to avoid);

Practical operation by each trainee in the open air of each type of extinguisher.

Duration: Approx 2 hours.

Course C - Carrying Out an Evacuation Drill

Premises must have fire evacuation drills that realistically reflect the circumstances that might occur in the event of a fire. The recommended time interval for these drills is at least every six months.

This course covers the following:

  • Prior attendance by a Davenheath fire engineer to liaise with management about the structure of the drill and to remind fire marshals of their duties;
  • Ensuring the drill reflects particular circumstances of the premises (including use of little used escape routes) and that those who need to be made aware of the drill such as remote call centres or neighbouring businesses are forewarned;
  • Supervision, and timing of the actual fire evacuation drill;
  • Debriefing management on completion of the drill and recording details in the relevant record books.

Duration: Approx 2 hours.
