Emergency Voice Communication Systems (EVCS)

In accordance with our intent to ensure customers can obtain comprehensive fire & security protection from Davenheath, we are pleased to add EVCS to our standard service offerings.

Although not any substitute for a suitable emergency escape route where it is possible, current planning regulations require that provision be made for a safe refuge for those unable to exit upper stories by normal escape routes due to disability.  Such refuges (which need to adhere to BS 5588(8)) need careful planning and a key element of them is the ability for those using them to be able to communicate with potential rescuers whilst waiting.  Such a system must have fire resistant properties, be capable of working without mains power supply and, importantly, be easy to use by those with motor and other disabilities.

Davenheath-OTS is able to supply such systems for its customers fully in accordance with the provisions of BS5839 Part 9 which governs the design, installation, commissioning and maintenance of emergency voice communication systems.

A typical installation will comprise:

  •     a centrally located control unit, normally adjacent to the main fire control panel (in the middle in the picture);
  •     fire-hardened cabling;
  •     battery back-up to mains supply;
  •     fire telephones (Type A in diagram, on the left in the picture) usable by those without major motor-disability and also fire marshals and others needing to communicate with the central control; and
  •     disabled refuge sets (Type B in diagram on the right in the picture) providing simple 'intercom' style hands free communication at the push of a button.  These can also be fitted with an induction loop system for those with hearing disability.

Although not exclusively tied to SigTEL-based solutions these are our preferred system at present. To find out more about their system please download the pdf brochure here.
