Typical Day/Night Cameras

Davenheath-OTS has extensive experience in the design & installation of the latest Digital Technology CCTV systems and is familiar with the legislative framework surrounding them as well.  It is particularly important that customers are clear about the purpose of their CCTV installation (e.g. prevention, investigation and detection of crime, apprehension and prosecution of offenders, public and employees, safety and the security monitoring of the premises) since the purpose will be relevant in any required registration under the Data Protection Act.  Davenheath-OTS can help its customers meet these requirements with a comprehensive resource pack.

Although no two systems will be alike it is normal that there will be a centrally located control desk and a range of internal and external cameras located at strategic points around the premises.  The control desk will comprise a central console, one or more monitors and recording equipment.

As part of the Davenheath-OTS service a security surveyor will consult with you about the preferred locations and types of camera to use taking into account such factors as power feeds, vulnerable locations, day and night coverage and many others.  External cameras are normally high resolution colour cameras for maximum image quality which will switch to mono at night to give the very best image quality in all conditions.  Internal Cameras are normally high resolution colour too.  Typically the cameras we fit are fitted with a self-adjusting auto iris lens to compensate for varying light conditions and a view angle of 4-9mm. This type of camera is also fitted with 21pc Led for night time use.

Data Protection Act

The Data Protection Act requires that commercial and public CCTV installations designed to provide either crime prevention, crime detection or to enhance the safety of the public have to comply with the requirements of the Act.  Any system installed at a private residence does not need to comply with it.

In particular, any CCTV system that retains a recorded copy must be operated in accordance with the Act.

Some specific requirements of the Act are that:

  •     There are signs warning that CCTV cameras are recording;
  •     All recordings are securely labelled and logged so as to facilitate an audit trail;
  •     All recordings (both active and archive) are kept in a secure location;
  •     You register with the Information Commissioner.
